Salary:
£32,000 – £35,000 per annum (depending on experience), including a 10% allowance for on-call duties as On-Call Supervisor and additional pay for responsibilities at the Radlett branch as Branch Supervisor.
Job Purpose:
To oversee the day-to-day running and administration of the Radlett branch, ensuring the highest professional and operational standards are maintained at all times. This includes supervising the on-call team (one week in three), ensuring compliance with company procedures, liaising with head office and the Potters Bar branch, and providing compassionate support and guidance to bereaved families.
The Funeral Director – Branch Manager will also play a key role in promoting the Radlett branch within the local community and building professional relationships with third parties in Radlett and the surrounding areas.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure a reverent, dignified, and professional service is provided to clients at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all company activities and sensitive client information.
- Manage and operate the Radlett branch efficiently and in line with company standards and policies.
Key Duties:
- Opening and managing the Radlett branch (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday).
- Ensuring the Radlett branch operates transparently “by appointment only” when covering Potters Bar.
- Providing cover at Potters Bar during holidays or absences of funeral conductors, arrangers, or operative staff.
- Conducting and assisting with funerals, including driving and bearing duties when required.
- Arranging funerals and liaising with families regarding all aspects of funeral services.
- Conducting all Radlett funerals (except during leave or when an alternative conductor is specifically requested).
- Attending removals from the community, hospital, or hospice as required.
- Overseeing the care, preparation, and presentation of the deceased.
- Preparing coffins and ensuring all associated arrangements are completed.
- Advising families on and managing memorial orders.
- Acting as on-call supervisor one week in three — attending out-of-hours removals and calls in accordance with the rota set by the Managing Director.
- Handling incoming and outgoing post and completing general office duties.
- Managing client calls, funeral documentation, and branch diary entries.
- Maintaining accurate manual and digital records.
- Overseeing daily maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection of company premises.
- Overseeing receipt and recording of monies.
- Supporting the training and assessment of new and existing staff participating in the on-call rota.
- Ensuring GDPR compliance through regular liaison with the Data Protection Manager.
- Reporting Health & Safety concerns to the Health & Safety Manager.
- Upholding company policies and ensuring Health & Safety standards are maintained.
- Attending to families visiting the chapel of rest.
- Managing the care and transfer of human remains and ashes.
- Providing compassionate support to bereaved families.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Funeral Director.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and familiar with funeral home software systems.
- Full clean driving licence held for at least 2 years (manual preferred).
- Use of own vehicle for business purposes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly organised, reliable, and empathetic.
