The Role

We are seeking an experienced Funeral Director to join our team, taking a lead role across our Sidmouth and Axminster branches which operate as Northcott Brothers and JF Clarke & Son respectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional looking for greater responsibility within a supportive, family-run business. You will oversee funeral operations, support colleagues, and ensure the highest standards of care for bereaved families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage funeral arrangements across two branches
  • Conduct funeral services with professionalism, dignity, and empathy
  • Meet families and provide expert guidance on funeral planning, cremation, and burial options
  • Oversee mortuary care, transportation, and preparation of the deceased
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory documentation is completed accurately
  • Liaise with clergy, celebrants, crematoria, and third-party providers
  • Supervise and support Funeral Arrangers and team members
  • Manage day-to-day operations and maintain high service standards
  • Participate in an on-call rota and support out-of-hours services when required

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Funeral Director / Senior Funeral Director
  • Strong knowledge of funeral arranging, funeral services, and UK regulations
  • Confident in conducting funerals and supporting bereaved families
  • Excellent communication and client care skills
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible, reliable, and professional at all times

Desirable Skills

  • Experience managing multiple funeral branches or locations
  • Leadership or team supervision experience
  • Relevant funeral service qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Funeral Directing)
