The Role
We are seeking an experienced Funeral Director to join our team, taking a lead role across our Sidmouth and Axminster branches which operate as Northcott Brothers and JF Clarke & Son respectively.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional looking for greater responsibility within a supportive, family-run business. You will oversee funeral operations, support colleagues, and ensure the highest standards of care for bereaved families.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage funeral arrangements across two branches
- Conduct funeral services with professionalism, dignity, and empathy
- Meet families and provide expert guidance on funeral planning, cremation, and burial options
- Oversee mortuary care, transportation, and preparation of the deceased
- Ensure all legal and regulatory documentation is completed accurately
- Liaise with clergy, celebrants, crematoria, and third-party providers
- Supervise and support Funeral Arrangers and team members
- Manage day-to-day operations and maintain high service standards
- Participate in an on-call rota and support out-of-hours services when required
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Funeral Director / Senior Funeral Director
- Strong knowledge of funeral arranging, funeral services, and UK regulations
- Confident in conducting funerals and supporting bereaved families
- Excellent communication and client care skills
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities
- Full UK driving licence
- Flexible, reliable, and professional at all times
Desirable Skills
- Experience managing multiple funeral branches or locations
- Leadership or team supervision experience
- Relevant funeral service qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Funeral Directing)
